Situated on the sandbanks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, this exotic camp is owned by Ian Douglas-Hamilton who has been involved in elephant conservation for 30 years and is founder and president of the registered charity ‘Save the Elephants’. The camp is eco-friendly in every way - there is no waste, no pollution and no noise and the camp is barely visible within the trees.
There are 6 desert style wide tents under thatch roofs designed and furnished to exacting standards by Oria Douglas-Hamilton. The sand floors are covered with locally woven palm mats. Interiors are individually styled and draped with coloured cloth and cushions and furnished with unusual furniture and beds made from fallen trees felled by elephants. The bathrooms are built around trees.
Everything in camp is simple but comfortable. The excellent food is organic where possible and comes from the camps own farm in Naivasha. All this ensures that guests enjoy candlelit dinners under a star studded sky with mouth-watering gourmet food.
Game drives, bush walks and cultural visits to local communities are on offer here. But the highlight of a stay here must be the elephant tracking day excursions.
